I'm Nina, a home cook and recipe creator living in the high desert of New Mexico, where the sunsets are absurd and the green chile is non-negotiable.
I've spent most of my life in the kitchen, feeding family, friends, and the occasional neighbor who happened to stop by at the right moment.
Cooking, for me, has never been about perfection. It's about flavor, connection, and making something genuinely delicious without turning the process into a stressful event.
I tend to cook the way I talk: honest, enthusiastic, and with a lot of heart. My cooking style is rooted in bold, straightforward flavors with as little fuss as possible. I'm drawn to dishes that taste like they took all day but actually come together in under an hour. I lean heavily on aromatics, good seasoning, and the kind of techniques that make simple ingredients punch well above their weight.
My Expertise
My cooking skills didn't come from a culinary school. They came from years of watching, tasting, failing, and trying again. I developed my approach through relentless hands-on practice, cooking the same dish four or five times until I understood exactly why it worked and what could go wrong.
I pay close attention to the details that trip people up, the tricky steps, the common substitutions, and the places where timing really matters. My goal is to write recipes that are dependable. When you follow one of my recipes, it should work. Not just sometimes, but reliably, every time
My Journey
I launched NinaCooking after friends and coworkers kept asking me to write down the things I was bringing to potlucks and gifting at the holidays. What started as a way to share a handful of recipes with people I knew became something much bigger than I anticipated. Over time my cooking evolved too.
I explored more cuisines, took on more ambitious techniques, and developed a real passion for making complex flavors accessible to everyday cooks. Today I'm motivated by the same thing I was at the beginning: helping real people make food they're proud of. Not restaurant food, not food for photos. Just genuinely good food that fits into an actual life.
